Vienglish is a term used by many of my friends to show the mix between languages, and perhaps cultures. This new meld between English and Vietnamese represents my life in Ho Chi Minh City where my culture and beliefs effect how I see and understand the new world around me. Vienglish, my travel blog is an outlet for me to share with others my experiences here in Vietnam and my passion for great food!

Phu My Hung Bus

Hello! It is officially November 20 and only 3 more weeks until final exams! Some anxiety but I figure its like paying for 3 whole weeks of Christmas Vacation!!! YIPPY!! Yesterday I witnessed my first ever Vietnamese funeral, and let me tell you, it was quite the fiesta. Everyone was in bright colors as the coffin was driven in a van down the street. There were all sorts of musicians with trumpets, horns, playing loudly and dancing as they walked down the street. Following this parade came a huge tour bus filled with what looked like the mourners. Who knows though. Some stared out the windows, others smoked, it was quite different from a formal black tie affair.
As always, after waiting for the funeral parade to go on its way, we passed the site of construction near the river. All along the high metal fences vendors squat, selling green snakes, turtles, and adorable kittens and dogs! Its my favorite part of the bus trip and I always crane my neck to see if my dream dog is there. Of course, its always a disappointment because a dog is out of the question.
